The Miami Dolphins announced they have signed running backs Zander Horvath and Anthony McFarland Jr. along with linebacker Dequan Jackson and wide receiver Jadon Janke. Additionally, the team placed offensive lineman Sean Harlow and wide receiver Willie Snead IV on the reserve/injured list, released running back Salvon Ahmed and waived/injured linebacker Ezekiel Vandenburgh.
Horvath has appeared in 15 games with two starts, having spent the 2022 season with the Los Angeles Chargers and recording four carries for eight yards (2.0 avg.). He also appeared in one postseason contest with the Chargers. Horvath spent time on practice squads with Pittsburgh and the Chargers in 2023 and spent the offseason program and part of training camp with New Orleans in 2024. He played collegiately at Purdue (2018-2021), where he appeared in 38 games and rushed for 1,181 yards on 268 attempts (4.4 avg.) with eight touchdowns. He also recorded 68 receptions for 592 yards (8.7 avg.) and one touchdown. Horvath entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick (260th overall) with the L.A. Chargers in 2022.
McFarland Jr. played in 17 games during four seasons with Pittsburgh (2020-23), where he rushed for 146 yards on 42 carries (3.5 avg.) and caught 11 passes for 87 yards (7.9 avg.). He also recorded nine kick returns for 237 yards (26.3 avg.) during his time with the Steelers. McFarland Jr. played collegiately at Maryland (2017-19), where he recorded 1,648 yards on 245 carries (6.7 avg.) with 12 touchdowns and added 24 receptions for 199 yards (8.3 avg.) and one touchdown. He entered the NFL as a fourth-round selection (124th overall) with Pittsburgh in 2020.
Jackson entered the NFL on May 1, 2023 as an undrafted college free agent with Jacksonville, where he spent the season on the practice squad. He spent the 2024 offseason with the Jaguars. Jackson played collegiately at Colorado State (2018-2022), where he appeared in 46 games and recorded 307 tackles (121 solo), 2.5 sacks, one pass defensed, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
Janke entered the NFL on May 10, 2024 as an undrafted college free agent with Houston, where he spent part of this year's training camp. He played collegiately at South Dakota State (2020-23), where he appeared in 51 games and caught 170 passes for 2,786 yards (16.4 avg.) and 30 touchdowns. He also contributed on special teams, recording 22 kick returns for 446 yards (20.3 avg.) and 16 punt returns for 183 yards (11.4 avg.).
Harlow signed with Miami on Aug. 3, 2024. Prior to signing with Miami, he played in 41 career games with eight starts – five at left guard and three at center. He spent time with the N.Y. Giants and Dallas in 2023 after two seasons with Arizona (2021-22) and four with Atlanta (2017, 2018-20). He also had a stint on Indianapolis's practice squad in 2018. Harlow was a fourth-round pick (136th overall) by Atlanta in the 2017 NFL Draft. He played collegiately at Oregon State.
Snead IV signed with Miami on July 31, 2024 after spending time with San Francisco (2022-23), Carolina (2021), Las Vegas (2021), Baltimore (2018-20) and New Orleans (2014-17). He also had a stint on Carolina's practice squad in 2014 after spending training camp with Cleveland. He has played in 103 career games with 48 starts, recording 281 receptions for 3,445 (12.3 avg.) and 16 touchdowns. Snead IV entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Cleveland on May 12, 2014. He played collegiately at Ball State.
Ahmed was awarded off waivers to Miami on Aug. 26, 2020 and has played in 38 games with four starts. He's totaled 163 carries for 593 yards (3.6 avg.) and five touchdowns, along with 40 receptions for 274 yards (6.9 avg.) and one touchdown during his four-year career. Ahmed originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with San Francisco on May 1, 2020. He played collegiately at Washington.
Vandenburgh signed with Miami as an undrafted college free agent on May 12, 2023. He played collegiately at Illinois State (2017-2022), where he appeared in 51 career games with 33 starts. Vandenburgh was the Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Year as a senior in 2022, leading all FCS players with 1.4 sacks per game (14.0 for the season).
