MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed tight end Clive Walford and placed cornerback Xavien Howard on injured reserve.
Walford spent the offseason and training camp with Miami before he was released on Aug. 27, 2019. He has played in 45 NFL games with 11 starts after three seasons in Oakland (2015-17) and one with the N.Y. Jets (2018). In his career, Walford has caught 70 passes for 768 yards (11.0 avg.) and six touchdowns. A South Florida native, he attended Glades Central High School before playing at the University of Miami.
Howard started five games for the Dolphins this season, totaling 17 tackles (12 solo), one interception and four passes defensed. In four seasons with the team, Howard has played in 40 games with 39 starts. He tied for the NFL lead with seven interceptions last year and his 12 interceptions since December 2017 are tied for the most in the NFL in that span. Howard originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (38th overall) by the Dolphins in the 2016 NFL draft.
