Game Recap: Offense Comes Alive in Second Half but Falls Short in Loss to Green Bay

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa completed 37-of-46 passes for a season-high 365 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn't enough to defeat Green Bay on Thanksgiving night at Lambeau Field, as Miami fell 30-17.

Tight end Jonnu Smith continued his streak of high-level play, leading all pass catchers with 10 receptions for 113 yards. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill caught six passes for 83 yards and a touchdown, while running back De'Von Achane added eight receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown to go along with his 14 rushing yards on seven carries.

Miami's defense forced a three-and-out on the game's opening drive, but a muffed punt gave the Packers the ball back in the red zone.

On third-and-goal, Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love connected with wide receiver Jayden Reed for the three-yard touchdown to give the Packers an early 7-0 lead with 12:00 left in the first quarter. The Packers widened their lead later in the first.

On the next drive, Green Bay leaned on its ground game to pave the way for another score. Running back Emmanuel Wilson took a third-down carry for 15 yards to set the Packers up with a goal-to-go situation. Running back Josh Jacobs punched in a one-yard touchdown to put the crown on Green Bay's 12-play, 76-yard drive.

Miami's offense responded on their next drive. On a critical fourth down, Tagovailoa found wide receiver Jaylen Waddle for a 16-yard connection, which highlighted a 12-play, 55-yard drive that ended with a 33-yard field goal by kicker Jason Sanders.

Love orchestrated Green Bay's next two scoring drives, leading to a 12-yard touchdown catch by Reed and a 46-yard field goal by kicker Brandon McManus which gave the Packers a 24-3 lead at halftime.

McManus extended Green Bay's lead 27-3 on their first drive of the second half with a 24-yard field goal.

Facing a large deficit, Miami's offense began to chip away at the Packers' lead. Passes of 13 and 16 yards to Smith and a 16-yard strike over the middle of the field to Waddle created the Dolphins' first red zone opportunity of the game.

On first-and-10 at Green Bay's 14-yard line, Tagovailoa completed a screen pass to Achane, who scampered into the end zone for Miami's first touchdown of the game. Tagovailoa completed a high-arching pass to Waddle on the two-point conversion that followed, making it 27-11 with 2:43 remaining in the third quarter.

After Miami's defense forced a punt, Tagovailoa engineered another promising drive that had the Dolphins at the Packers' one-yard line on second-and-goal, but they were unable to reach the end zone on the next three downs.

McManus added a 33-yard field goal on Green Bay's next drive to extend their lead to 30-11 with 5:02 remaining

Still fighting late in the game, Tagovailoa led another touchdown drive which was capped by Hill catching a tipped pass in the end zone, bringing the Dolphins within 13 with 1:58 left in the game.

Miami will head back home to take on the New York Jets (3-8) on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m. on CBS.
