The Dolphins agreed to terms with free agent tight end Pharaoh Brown, adding another valuable blocking option to the offense. Brown has played most of his career as an attached Y tight end – aligning next to the offensive tackle – with a highlight reel full of exceptional blocks. He's added 751 receiving yards and three touchdowns over the course of a seven-year career.
Punishing blocker
If you didn't know any better based on the gameday program and his jersey number, it would be easy to confuse Pharoah Brown for an offensive lineman when he's called upon to block. He's a knockback candidate on every run-down rep with well-crafted technique and power at the point of attack, but his pass protection reel is equally impressive.
Last season alone, Brown scored pass protection wins against the likes of Tyquann Lewis, Azeez Ojulari, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Jaelan Phillips. His ability to sink into his anchor and hold up against the best edge rushers in football is not a common trait for a tight end.
According to Pro Football Focus, Brown has allowed just 10 quarterback pressures and one sack on 216 pass-blocking opportunities.
Big play reel
The assumption for a tight end with a resume full of premier blocking reps is that his receiving standard is rather low. But when Brown was with the Patriots, big plays were his forte. He caught four passes for 20 or more yards in 2023, including this 58-yard touchdown.
Angry runs
The explosive plays are a nice complement to the game of a player who specializes in physicality, and that rugged prowess extends behind his work as a blocker – it translates as a ball carrier.
Brown was nominated for the Angry Runs scepter following his tackle-shedding run against the Cardinals.
