Fast Facts: Ashtyn Davis

The Dolphins tapped into the AFC East to find their next safety, agreeing to terms with Ashtyn Davis. The former third-round pick of the Jets logged eight interceptions in five years with New York.

Find the football

Being a rotational piece of a deep Jets secondary, Davis played 1,055 defensive snaps during his five seasons in New York. He added three forced fumbles with four recoveries to his resume, giving him a total of 15 takeaways. That's good for an average of three per season, which would've tied Miami's team lead in 2024.

Davis' nose for the football tracks back to his days at Cal. He pulled down seven interceptions with three forced fumbles and three more recoveries over his three years as a starter for the Golden Bears.

Interchangeability

Davis has appeared in 69 games with 22 starts as a pro. Some of his best tape comes from playing the deep center field position, but it's far from his only calling card. Going back to his days in college, Davis has been no stranger to covering in the slot.

In fact, most of his snaps have come down around the line of scrimmage. According to Pro Football Focus, 41 percent of his career snaps came with a pre-snap alignment in the box with 22 percent in the slot and the remaining 37 percent from the deep safety position.

Special Teams Ace

Some of Ashtyn Davis' biggest contributions with the Jets came on special teams, tallying 20 tackles while committing just one penalty in over 1,000 snaps. He also presented the Jets punt team with something of a secret weapon; he carried the ball four times for 26 yards picking up three first downs on the four fake punt attempts. According to Pro Football Reference, 21 of those yards came after initial contact.

Walk-on turned five-year pro

Davis walked on to the Cal football roster before becoming an All-Pac-12 safety in back-to-back seasons.

The drive he had as a walk-on did not let up after he was selected in the third round by the Jets. Adam Gase was the Jets Head Coach during Davis' rookie season and dubbed him "The Energizer Bunny," to which Davis responded:

"I haven't been called that before, but I think it's just because I try to run the ball every play and try be in that camera angle at the end of that snap,"

Sprinter speed

One year after finishing runner-up, Davis won the Pac-12 championship in the 110-meter hurdles in 2017 with a personal best time of 13.5 seconds. His best time in the 100 meters event was 10.72 seconds.

That speed shows up with his range as a deep safety. He glides from sideline-to-sideline and highpoints the football.
